Welcome To
Habito Designs

Habito Designs is a RIBA Chartered, ARB-registered architecture practice designing house extensions, loft conversions and home renovations in Camberley. The practice is led by architect Priti Shahare, who brings over 20 years of residential, conservation and heritage experience to every project. From our studio in Woking we take Camberley homeowners from the first site visit through feasibility, planning applications to Surrey Heath Borough Council, Building Regulations drawings and construction management.

Chartered and registered

We are a RIBA Chartered practice and our architect is registered with the Architects Registration Board. The title "architect" is protected by law, so you can check both before you appoint anyone. Our guide on why a chartered architect matters explains the difference

Surrey Heath planning experience

Camberley applications are decided by Surrey Heath Borough Council. We design around the council’s policies from day one, which is why a proper feasibility study comes before any drawings.

A proven Camberley project

Our Kinrara extension in Camberley started after an earlier permitted development application had been refused. We redesigned the scheme and delivered the space the family needed.

One practice from sketch to site

We follow the RIBA Plan of Work, so you deal with one practice and one point of contact from concept to completion.

Camberley Project:
Kinrara

The owners of Kinrara came to us after their first application under permitted development was refused. Their brief was simple — a bigger kitchen, a utility room and a cloakroom. We proposed a full-width single-storey rear extension with sliding doors to the garden, replacing a series of compartmentalised rooms with almost 60m² of open-plan kitchen, dining and lounge space. The kitchen is now the heart of the house, with a generous island and direct views to the garden. See the Kinrara project in Camberley.

Planning Permission in Camberley: What to Know

Single-storey rear extensions can reach 3m (attached) or 4m (detached) without an application, rising to 6m and 8m under the prior approval process. Loft conversions are typically allowed up to 40m³ on terraced homes and 50m³ on semi-detached and detached homes. Our explainer on what permitted development covers sets out the conditions.

Heathland around Camberley forms part of the SPA. Householder extensions are not usually affected, but schemes that create a new dwelling — including some annexes and plot subdivisions - may need a mitigation contribution. We check this at feasibility stage.

Surrey Heath has conservation areas in and around Camberley, where permitted development is restricted and materials need to respect the setting.

Camberley Architect FAQs

Do I need planning permission for an extension in Camberley?

Not always. Many single-storey rear extensions and loft conversions fall within permitted development. Two-storey extensions, most side extensions and work in a conservation area usually need a householder application to Surrey Heath Borough Council. We confirm the right route during your consultation.

The statutory target is 8 weeks from validation, and validation typically takes one to two weeks after submission. Allow extra time if you choose a pre-application enquiry first, which we recommend for anything beyond a standard rear extension.

Yes – that is exactly how our Kinrara project began. The usual options are to amend and resubmit (a fee now applies to resubmissions, as the free resubmission was removed in December 2023) or to appeal. Householder appeals must be lodged within 12 weeks of the decision.

Usually not for a standard householder extension. It becomes relevant where a scheme creates an additional dwelling. We flag this at feasibility stage so it never surprises you later.

We provide fixed-fee quotes for feasibility, planning and Building Regulations packages once we understand your project. Our guide to how architects charge in Surrey explains the fee models.

Tell us what you have in mind, even if it is only a rough idea. The first conversation is free and there is no obligation. Book a free consultation or call 07726 313 993.
