The homeowners approached us after the first planning application under permitted development was refused. They had a simple request for a bigger kitchen, a utility, and a cloakroom.
By visiting the property, talking through their ideas, they reimaged their home as a light-filled space with everyday functionality.
Located in the leafy Camberley, the proposal is a full-width, single-storey rear extension including sliding doors for garden connection, which unlocked the potential of the ground floor. The design prioritised openness, natural light, and seamless indoor-outdoor flow-hallmarks of contemporary British living. The full-width rear extension spans the entire back elevation, with an open plan layout integrating kitchen, dining, and lounge to extend the living experience outdoors.
The extension was conceived as a spatial reset, removing compartmentalised rooms and replacing them with a unified, flowing environment. The kitchen became the heart of the home, framed by a generous island and a dining area with views to the garden. A soft transition leads into a relaxed lounge space, perfect for entertaining or unwinding.
This rear extension didn’t just add square footage, but also made almost 60m2 of living – dining space; it transformed how the home was lived in. Morning coffees in the sunlit kitchen, weekend gatherings spilling into the garden, and quiet evenings in a space that feels both expansive and intimate.
